100k

We loaded our 100,000th story today. That is, we have loaded 100k stories from our pre-load sites (Digg, Mixx, Reddit, Del.icio,us, et al).

Of those 100k stories, we've had 11,230 that have made the front page - so 11% of the stories from the front page of OTHER sites, our users considered to be worthwhile.

The addition of Mixx has added a lot in the last week - we are considering going to just the "top" feed instead of each sub-feed.

Mixx

Nozzl has added Mixx as a site it feeds off of. This is the first time we've added a site this year - and we've only added once since we started Nozzling (StumbleUpon, last December).

There are a LOT of social news sites out there. We ONLY want to include the best, and ones with the widest range of stories we can get. Most of those news sites are just clones of the others, have the same stories, have a ton of spam, etc. We've been watching Mixx for a while now - the quaility and range of stories is great, and they've got a big enough community now to be able to act as a great pre-filter for Nozzl. And with the annoucment that CNN is adding a Mixx button, we anticipate it'll only get better.

Mixx will act like any of our other pre-filter sites - their top stories will be woven into all the others, and you can just see what's top on Mixx by clicking on their icon at the top of the Nozzl page.

User votes will now count for more than one, for users that use the site more.

What will happen is the more Lifetime Nozzl Cash you have, the more your vote will count.

We will scale this over time, as people get more Cash. Right now, it's not possible to vote over 50. And the most active person on the site right now will have vote weight of 12.

We're doing this to reward more frequent users. As people get more cash, the ratio will go down or will scale in some way.

Once the governing council gets in place, those on the council (and their delegates) will get some additional weight.

So just a quick note - planning on having a governing body for Nozzl. Going to be some new interesting things with that - not sure when it will be in place, but it's in-process.

Big update

I've been off working on SP. The base code was old SP + Nozzl. After the dust settled, I started to add more functions for that site.

I've just put a new release of Nozzl up, with those new functions:

• Users can now add other users as friends.
• On the main page, you can select "Everyone" or "Friends". Friends will limit to whatever stories your friends have voted for (+ the time and sites selected as criteria). Also works for RSS.
  
• On the users page, you can now view what story the user voted for, what comments they made, and who their friends are. You can also add and remove friendship with someone on their main page.
• The Last 10 Comments and Votes will now always show up (was using a cache... but when something caused the cache to reset, it would blank out. Now when that happens, I re-load the cache from the DB).

I continue to use the site daily, as a few others are doing. Still need to get more users... but hard to get coverage :)

I'm pretty happy with the site - SP is in the middle of getting groups, which I may pull in when done. I also need to polish user setup up a bit - like adding defaults for initial criteria.
